The set is built, lighting is placed, sound has been checked, the orchestra is tuned, and the actors are well-rehearsed. The theater company is ready for opening night.
Much like a theatrical production, many elements must work together before your classroom is ready for the first day of school. These elements include:
- individual student needs
- daily routine
- physical adaptations and supports
- sensory needs
- social and emotional needs
- furniture
- the room itself
Materials must be organized, learning spaces should be designated, and routines must be in place.
Walking into a new, empty classroom can be daunting to even the most seasoned teacher. When you find yourself in this scenario, take a moment to thank God and pray over the students who will learn in the space, the lessons to be learned, and the people who will help. Ask for His guidance and peace throughout each decision you make.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
